Kroll, a board member of Axon Enterprise (formerly known as TASER international), was the lead author of a 2019 paper published in Human Factors and Mechanical Engineering for Defense and Safety titled “ Benefits, Risks, and Myths of TASER Handheld Electrical Weapons.” Kroll and his coauthors noted that stun guns used by police officers had brought about a dramatic reduction in officer-involved deaths and injuries inflicted during violent confrontations. Kroll, the author of the 2007 IEEE Spectrum article that immediately follows, has certainly kept an eye on how taser electrical weapons work in the real world-particularly, how they have changed the way law enforcement officers subdue violent and uncooperative suspects.
